Stefanie Cole

Stefanie Cole is a mother of three, an educator, and a human living within this challenging world. Nature, reading, writing and community supports her through the good times and the bad. Her publications on literacy, disability, differentiation, goal setting, and well-being have appeared in ETFO's Voice, The Globe and Mail, Literary Mama, EdCan Network, Canadian Teacher, the University of New Brunswick’s Journal, Antistasis, and Canadian Music Educator. As well, she wrote the Professional Resource column for the Ontario Library Association's Teaching Librarian Magazine from 2016 to 2018.

The Slowest Count

Indistinguishable thumping followed by crashing noises and wood splintering interrupted my nightly ritual of washing and drying dinner dishes. I dropped the tea towel, flew down the hall and up the stairs. The noise stopped. I stopped too, with my hand on the doorknob to my youngest son’s room, Schrodinger’s cat heavy in my mind, knowing that this was a box I had to open, but it could change everything.
