Kyra Cole

Kyra Cole is a poet and math teacher based in Denver, Colorado. She began writing poetry at an early age after struggling with dyslexia. Writing gave her a way to take control of what used to feel impossible to learn. She has since received a masters degree in creative writing and education from Goldsmiths University of London. Influenced by her Colorado roots, her poems often engage with the outdoors, nature, and animals. When she is not writing or teaching you can find her rock climbing or cuddling with her cats.

What did it feel like to be the first?
emerged from the depths
to become tree-dweller and see the earth
curving beneath you, just to climb down
just to walk until exhaustion, over and over
until you’ve traveled too far to return
