My Near-Death Experience

“If I loved you,

being this close would kill me.”

Dorianne Laux

As near-death experiences go,

it was one of the best.

What more is there to tell?

How to explain then the wandering

alone in the Underworld, knowing

he would not be back for me.

How they came from every circle,

spirits out of the shadows,

all of us there, even there,

drawn to the music.
